The Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority Police Service is the Lower Mainland's newest police service and the only one of its kind in Canada. As the GVTA (TransLink) transit system becomes increasingly critical to the development of cities and communities across the Lower Mainland, the need for safety in transit and the communities it affects is paramount. Our 2008 authorized strength is 154 police officers and 47.5 civilians, a total of 201.5 staff. The Transit Police Service is expanding to meet a growing transit system and hiring for a variety of police officer and civilian positions will take place in 2008/2009. GVTA Police Service career opportunities will be posted on this website.

In joining the GVTA Police Service, you will be playing a key role in the safety of commuters and members of communities throughout the Lower Mainland. You will be helping to build the image of transit as a safe and desirable alternative to the personal automobile, which will ensure that the Lower Mainland remains a livable region for generations to come. With the GVTA Police Service, you will directly interact with the public during your patrol and will have the full powers of police to enable you to deal with threats to public safety. You have the opportunity to help keep our communities safe. Police officer recruitment is now under way.

Police Officer Recruiting
The GVTA Police Service invites applications from prospective police recruits and experienced police officers that have high ethical standards, personal integrity, strong interpersonal skills and a desire to serve the community.

The GVTA Police Service requirements and selection process is consistent with Police Services Division - Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General recommendations and standards on selection, recruitment and training. It also complies with both the spirit and intent of Human Rights Legislation.
